Last Wednesday, 24 middle school students were inducted into the Mardela Junior Honor Society! The students who were inducted have maintained a high standard of excellence in their academics, extracurricular activities, and character. We would also like to give a special shout out to some of our current members who helped with the ceremony! #WarriorPride 💚💛
Two of our Mardela students won a county-wide Art Contest that was part of the Children's Mental Health Matters Community Family Event on May 9th. Eleven of Mrs. Bergquist's students entered the contest, along with hundreds of other students across Wicomico County. There were a select few chosen as winners, and two were from our school: A first place prize was awarded to Aubrey Cockey, and a 2nd place prize was awarded to Blair Ennis! On vacation at her grandpa’s, a little girl named Mia accidentally discovers a mysterious piece of astronomical machinery. Edmund, Mia’s eccentric uncle, tricks the girl into using the tool’s secret powers to change the world’s seasons. She realizes the consequences of what they are going to do, but Edmund doesn’t want to let the plan go.
Magic Globe’s engaging story has a clear educational structure, designed to interest and challenge children from 5 to 12 years. Children can recap their prior knowledge and/or learn new concepts while the story carries everyone forward together, making it perfect for mixed-ability audiences.
Shows are on Wednesday, May 21, Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23 in the Parkside Planetarium. There is one show per night, at 6 p.m., first come, first seated. We are proud to announce that Wicomico County Public Schools has once again earned the distinction of being named one of the Best Communities for Music Education. This is the 16th time in the past 19 years, and the 14th consecutive year, that Wicomico Schools has earned this award from the NAMM Foundation. Our students receive an outstanding music education in chorus, band, orchestra, school performances, parades and more. The award is directly related to the dedication and quality of our teachers as well as the support we receive from WCPS administration, school-based administrators, the Board of Education, and our community. Thank you to all of the excellent Wicomico music educators who made this Best Communities for Music Education recognition possible. The 2025 Great Mardela Teacher Frog HOP has come to an end! 750 frogs of all colors were hopping around camps this week for teachers and students to find, so that teachers could win prizes to celebrate TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! Students who found frogs could share them with their teachers to give them more chances to win! Everyone enjoyed searching for frogs and toadstools to try to steal or save their frogs! Lots of teachers and staff won fabulous prizes! Sometimes it pays to take a leap of faith and just have fun!

DI Run for Creativity, a Destination Imagination fundraiser for the two Wicomico teams headed to Global Finals, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday at Fruitland City Park.

Friday was the final day of Mental Health Week Awareness at Mardela Middle/High School. Today, the counseling staff shared temporary tattoos and stickers with motivational messages, invited students to take their photos at the MMHS Insta-spot, and there was a Swag Bag Raffle during all the lunches, and several students at each lunch won a bag with lots of cool mental health swag!
The 3rd Annual Children's Mental Health Awareness FAMILY NIGHT is a FREE Community Event on Friday, May 9th from 5-8pm at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. Several of our students at Mardela have entered artwork into the art show & competition, and it will be on display there as well! There will also be Free Food & Drinks, a petting zoo, bouncy houses, and lots of vendors to visit, as well as the 7th Annual eRACE 5K Run/Walk. See the attached flyer for more details.

Get Ready for the GREAT MARDELA TEACHER…
Nope, NOT a Duck Hunt… It’s the FROG HOP 2025!!
That’s right — FROG HOP is coming your way for Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5–9)!

What's Happening:
• All the ducks have flown the coop… but the FROGS are hopping in!
• Frogs will be hidden around the school for teachers and staff to find.
• Students may help teachers/staff catch the frogs!
• Each teacher/staff member may collect up to 5 frogs per day.
• Keep the frogs you find — each one is numbered for the prize drawings.
• If you’re given a frog and already have 5 for the day:
o Pass it to another teacher/staff
o OR re-hide it in the building

Prize Entries:
• Submit your frog numbers by 2:00 PM each day using the Google Form.
• Daily random prize drawings will take place!
• Grand prizes will be awarded at the end of the week for:
o Staff who submit pictures with their frogs (along with their student helpers)!
• Send photos to Mrs. Raygor by email or text — feel free to send photos each day.

Bonus Game Features:
• ROYAL FROGS = Bonus Prizes!
• TOADSTOOLS = Beware!
o If you receive a toadstool:
You must release any frogs you found that day.
Give them to the person who gave you the toadstool.
Keep the toadstool in your "bog" — you can’t reuse it.
But it might protect you from others (they won’t know if it’s active or not!).

• Keep all frogs until the end of the week — entries roll over and are cumulative!
• Frogs are shy — no frog-hunting mobs!
o They’ll only appear during:
Breakfast
Flex
Lunch
• No class disruptions or hallway hunts!
o Violators may find an unwelcome toadstool in their doorway!
